This offers a substantial saving against grid supplied electricity rates currently available and protects against long-term inflationary pressures on energy costs.

As Wallwork work for clients within the aerospace, motorsport and medical industries, they were facing increasing environmental pressure from this high-quality customer base to be as environmentally friendly as possible. The move to self-generated solar energy complements Wallwork’s focus on a green future for the company and contributes to its environmental compliance within wider supply chains.

“As a company we are always looking at ways that we can be more environmentally friendly and generating our own electricity using solar panels was the perfect way to do this. In addition, the current volatility of energy prices has reinforced the benefits of having a secure long-term supply.” Said Josh Fallows, Operartions Manager at Wallwork.

Centreco’s Business Development Director Thomas Knox said, “Wallwork are typical of many of the clients we are working with, in that they are facing increasing environmental pressure from their customers to ensure complete environmental integrity within the manufacturing process. This is of particular importance for Wallwork given the high-profile sectors they work across.

Solar energy is perfect in a high energy usage environment such as heat treatment as not only are green credentials substantially improved but a system also delivers immediate cost savings and peace of mind that the business is protected against any future energy price hikes.

Wallwork were a pleasure to work with throughout the installation process, from the initial contact with our design and development teams, through to commissioning of the system as they immediately understood the environmental and commercial benefits that a solar energy system brings to their company.”

Commercial Landlords use Centreco to address MEES and access new revenue streams

Centreco (UK) Limited, the leading installer of commercial solar energy systems, has seen a marked increase in the take up of their services to address the impact of the UK government’s Minimum Energy Efficient Standards (MEES) on the leasing of commercial premises.

Originally introduced in 2018 by the government as part of a wider strategy to tackle climate change, the Minimum Energy Efficient Standards (MEES) make it unlawful to let residential or commercial buildings with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of F or G – effectively the two lowest grades of efficiency. These restrictions are being extended from April 2023 to cover leases is already in place, thereby capturing all short and long term commercial lets.

The consequences for landlords of not meeting with these regulations are significant with penalties up to a maximum of £150,000 being enforced by Trading Standards.

Landlords can be exempt if they can demonstrate that qualifying energy efficiency improvements have been carried out to these properties. Many landlords are therefore turning to Centreco to provide an immediate improvement of the EPC rating for a property by installing a solar energy system, as it provides the strongest commercial case for landlords, whilst benefiting both sitting and future tenants.

A solar energy system will provide an immediate uplift in the EPC rating of a building and in virtually all instances will overcome the implications of MEES for a commercial landlord, whilst delivering the wider environmental benefits brought by self-generated renewable energy.

Landlords are also able to further benefit from a commercial solar energy system as they can use it to generate additional revenue.

Typically, a roof-top or ground mounted system will generate electricity at an equivalent cost rate of 2-4p per kWh, over a 25-year plus period. With commercial electricity rates from the grid currently averaging 30-40p per kWh, landlords could be selling electricity back to a tenant through a simple Power Purchase Agreement at a rate below that open market benchmark and generate substantial returns.

Centreco’s Business Development Director, Tom Knox. says “there is significant scope to earn additional revenue, improve returns on capital employed and increase the value of the property asset, whilst also benefiting the tenant with significantly cheaper energy costs than they could access in the wider market.

With the increasing restrictions of the MEES legislation and the ever-escalating price of electricity, so Centreco are seeing increased demand for solar energy systems from landlords to deliver environmental and financial benefits whilst delivering an upside for their tenants.

Solar energy offers a win-win for the landlord and tenant.”

Using the latest design techniques alongside site surveys, Centreco were able to design and install a bespoke solar energy system that matches Dynamic Metals electricity usage profile, ensuring the best long term commercial returns for the business.

Alex Bailey, Operations Director at Dynamic Metals said “Working with Centreco was a pleasure. Time was taken to ensure that our specific requirements were met by the system and the installation teams were brilliant.

The system is performing well and just sits quietly in the background doing its thing without the need for us to do anything. It’s great that the system is not only improving our green credentials, but also saving the company money at the same time.

I would happily work with Centreco again in the future for my next solar project.”

Centreco’s Senior Project Manager, Alan Cuthbert said, “Dynamic Metals have taken the next step towards a green future by installing a solar energy system. This is more important than ever as increasing pressure is applied to supply chains to decrease carbon emissions. This is especially important within the aerospace and motor sport industries – sectors which Dynamic Metals excel in. With the installation now complete, Dynamic Metals now gain a significant environmental advantage and complement their quality operations with a premium solar energy system from Centreco.

There is a second benefit to Dynamic Metals being that they can now benefit from a significant reduction in their expenditure on electricity, with the equivalent fixed hedge price of 3.9p per kW Hour – a huge saving on the current market rates with inherent protection against electricity price inflation in the long-term. When you look at the current availability of commercial electricity costs in the UK market, there are no grid-based energy supplier that can match these equivalent prices.

It has been a pleasure working with the Dynamic Metals team to deliver the installation”

Centreco Announces Formation of In-House Scaffolding Division

Centreco (UK) Limited, the leading installer of commercial solar energy systems announce the next stage in a companywide expansion programme to bolster current operational capacity with the formation of a specialist in house scaffolding division.

With scaffolding being essential for the installation of any commercial roof-mounted solar energy system, having an in-house specialist scaffolding team allows Centreco to have complete control of the assembly, use and dismantling of scaffolding whilst on site ensuring improved quality control and adherence to the most stringent Health and Safety standards.

By having this specialist scaffolding team in house gives Centreco the ability to act with improved responsiveness once approvals for a Solar Energy System are in place. This ensures a better overall result for a client as it safeguards against external factors that could impact the installation process, therefore improving the flow of the project in line with the installation plan as agreed with a client.

Centreco have recruited Carl Bleasdale as Head of Scaffolding Operations to oversee this new division and ensure its continued success moving forward.

Jon Williams, the Managing Director of Centreco said “Carl was an obvious choice for Head of Scaffolding Operations, with his many years of industry experience and unrivalled attention to detail, I am certain he will ensure every installation starts on time, that roof access progresses in a safe and timely manner, whilst causing as little disruption as possible to the client’s daily activities.

We are currently within a period of positive expansion for Centreco in line with increasing industry demand due to energy price pressures and the formation of an in-house scaffolding division is a natural step for Centreco to create yet further control of the installation process for our clients.”

Carl Bleasdale, Head of Scaffolding Operations, said “It is incredibly rare within the commercial solar energy sector for a company to have scaffolding resources integrated into their business, as it is often an element of the system installation that is sub-contracted out to third-parties. For Centreco having an in-house scaffolding team will be of big benefit for our clients as the installation process will be resourced by our employed skilled staff from the start of the installation process to the end. Centreco will be able to act with greater speed and efficiency and will enhance the solar energy system installation process as a result.
