Premier Textiles benefit from new 30kW Solar Panel System

  • 30kW capacity system installed at Stockport Head Office
  • System comprised of 81 Solar Panels
  • CO2 emissions savings of 5,534 kg per annum
  • Equivalent fixed electricity costs of 4.5p per kWh

Centreco (UK) Limited are delighted to announce the completed installation of a 30kW Solar Panel System for Premier Textiles of Stockport, Greater Manchester. The solar panel system consisting of 81 roof mounted tier one panels will allow Premier Textiles to generate their own green electricity, with the system predicted to save 138 Tonnes of CO2 emissions saved over the next 25 years allowing them to bolster their current green initiatives and environmental policies. These CO2 savings are equivalent to 343,413 miles driven by an average passenger car.

With electricity costs on the rise, Premier Textiles are now able to benefit from equivalent fixed electricity costs of 4.5p per kWh over the next 25 years across both their warehouse and production premises. Premier Textiles are also able to benefit from exporting any unused electricity back to the grid and be paid for the that incremental generation.

Despite having some restrictions on available roof space and limited historical electricity usage statistics, through multiple site surveys Centreco were able to design a system specification that maximised the available roof area at their Head Office premises whilst ensuring the best commercial case for Premier Textiles.

Centreco are aware of the importance of long-term sustainability for Premier Textiles so were able to offer a Tier One manufacturer backed 25-year warranty for the solar panels ensuring protection against future electricity price inflation, delivering energy security and bringing long lasting environmental benefits to this leading importer of yarns and fabrics.

Managing Director of Centreco Jon Williams said “Working with the Premier Textiles team was refreshing. It’s always great to be working with clients who are genuinely engaged and interested in the project, and with clients who understand the commercial and environmental benefits that a solar energy system brings. Despite not having a half hourly meter, our technical teams are always able to find a solution, which in this case involved installing what is effectively a secondary clamp meter during the design phase of the system so we could sufficiently understand Premier’s electricity demands and size the system accordingly to maximise the benefit of the available roof area.”

With electricity costs on the rise, Holophane are now able to benefit from equivalent fixed electricity costs of just 2.8p per kWh for the next 25 years across their premises. This compares to prices we are currently seeing in the commercial energy market of 25p per kwh, with these prices likely to increase substantially over time.

Through site surveys and using the latest design techniques Centreco were able to maximise the available roof space across their premises whilst ensuring the best commercial returns for the client.

Centreco are aware of the importance of long-term sustainability for Holophane Europe Ltd, so were able to offer a Tier 1 manufacturer backed 25-year performance warranty for the solar panels, allowing confidence in the system’s long-term performance, the related commercial returns and importantly the future environmental benefits delivered by the system.

David Barnwell, Managing Director of Holophane Europe Ltd said “Holophane Europe’s investment in the new solar PV panel installation that was designed, installed and commissioned by Centreco is another commitment to “Earthlight”, a companywide initiative focused on our Environmental, Social & Governance programme.  By investing in renewable energy, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint as we move towards a carbon neutral business. This new installation will provide 70% of our electricity in 2022 with the remaining 30% purchased from Carbon Trust accredited, 100% renewable energy sources.”

Centreco’s Managing Director Jon Williams said, “It is great to see environmentally aware companies such as Holophane Europe manufacturing in the UK. By deploying sustainable strategies Holophane are reducing their carbon foot-print and by embracing this solar energy system we have delivered commercial benefits as well. Companies such as Holophane can fix a significant proportion of their energy costs at an equivalent price that beats anything available from the commercial energy providers. With that in mind, we’re starting to see an increase in the amount of astute manufacturing companies installing solar energy systems at their premises.

Centreco are proud to have partnered with such an environmentally progressive business as Holophane in the delivery of this renewable energy project.”

These CO2 savings are equivalent to 1,037,996 miles driven by an average passenger car.

With electricity costs on the rise, Richmond Containers are now able to benefit from equivalent fixed electricity costs of just 3.5p per kWh for the next 25 years across their premises. This compares to prices we are currently seeing in the commercial energy market of 25p per kwh, with these prices likely to increase substantially in the future.

Centreco’s Managing Director Jon Williams said, “Richmond Containers are typical of what we are seeing with many clients now, in that due to growing environmental pressure within the supply chain, as well as rising electricity costs, self-generated solar energy is becoming a the go to option for progressive manufacturers. And what was great with Richmond Containers was that you could see from day one they were fully engaged with the project and keen to pursue not only the commercial benefits, but also the environmental benefits that it brings. The Solar Panel system we installed can sit alongside their current green initiatives.”

Richmond’s Operations Manager, James Paynter, said: “The solar offering was an attractive idea primarily for environmental reasons – we all want to do our bit for the environment and to know that our four electric car charging points, our electric forklift chargers and other equipment is using sustainable energy is a great move forward. It compliments other projects that have already taken place such as LED lighting, heat exchangers, etc with all of it helping the focus on reducing carbon footprint. Obviously, the commercial aspect with current energy prices is a big plus but one key aspect that Centreco helped us with was that we needed to replace the roof on our building and projected solar savings was a great way to offset against roof cost over the coming years. All of these elements helping us to fulfil our mission to design, create and supply beautiful and sustainable packaging for skincare and personal care.”

This includes their energy usage, and they were keen to use green renewable energy to fulfil their energy demands. The 162kW solar panel system we have installed will allow them to substantially reduce their expenditure on electricity, with one of the key factors of this installation being that it allowed the company to reduce their carbon footprint. It’s a pleasure to work with companies who recognise the importance of using green renewable energy to ensure long term environmental sustainability.”
